Abstract
Orthorhombic good quality single crystals of calcium iodate were obtained by single diffusion gel technique. Optimum conditions were established for the growth of good quality single crystals. The powder X ray diffraction analysis confirms its crystalline nature and structure. The Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic study indicates the presence of water molecules and iodate ligands. The optical band gap of grown crystal was evaluated from the UV visible spectral analysis. The grown crystals were concerned in an antibacterial activity against certain potentially bullying microbes such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans. The strong iodine rich oxidizing property of metal iodates make them in the formulation of biocidal energetic materials
