Abstract

: In individual transport by bike, foot or car, current or future traffic volumes can lead to a delay or to a less pleasant route. The workflow presented in this paper only utilized open data, open source libraries and open standards to determine and provide traffic volumes based on the Internet of Things. A prototypical implementation for Mainz, the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate, shows how the determined traffic can be visualized and highlights the strengths, but also the challenges of the presented approach.
