The green belt of Baqubah city between reality and ambition

Abstract

The city of Baqubah witnessed a large random urban growth due to the increase in the population, as well as the migrations from different areas, which caused the emergence of slums clearly scattered on the outskirts of the city, taking advantage of open and green areas and empty spaces around the city, as well as the negative effects caused by urban growth on the agricultural areas which has increased the size of the large loss in reducing its size in the scarcity of water and its impact on all aspects of life in the governorate, which requires the development of treatments and solutions proposed to mitigate the effects associated with this growth. One of these treatments lies in the establishment of the green belt or the so-called green areas around the city, which is a green belt of protected farms, because of its great importance for improving the city’s environment, as well as its benefits for mental health as an outlet for the city’s residents because of the aesthetic of the green nature and open spaces for entertainment, as well as its economic importance in increasing agricultural products through the establishment of nurseries, ornamental plants, and others.
