Abstract

Background: The peripheral joints are particularly vulnerable to the autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis often exhibit symptoms of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome in rheumatoid arthritis is connected with increased morbidity and death.
