Abstract

This paper proposes a new design of interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor, which has a V-shaped rotor with a combination of the assisted arched permanent magnets and asymmetrical flux-barriers for improving the torque characteristics. This approach can guide the PM flux distribution in order to concentrate the flux lines and improve the waveforms in the air gap effectively. The proposed IPM motors are analyzed by using finite element analysis (FEA), and the beneficial attributes of the proposed new design compared with the simulation results are emphasized.
