Abstract

Attaining value captures the essence of economic activity organizations. Since inception of the concept, value chains have enhanced value creation in the physical world and resulted in new business opportunities in the virtual domain. Healthcare requires transformational change, in order to achieve the best outcomes. Value based healthcare is an adaptation of structures and processes which are designed to capture value in delivery of healthcare services.

The specialty of vascular surgery in the United Kingdom has been undergoing transformational change in the last 5 years, in terms of training structure, how the services are delivered and funded. This paper discusses the concept of value based healthcare and how it can be adapted to enhance the quality of vascular surgical services provided in the United Kingdom in light of the recent structural changes in vascular surgical services.
