Abstract

Short chains of microconidia were observed in a culture of Fusarium subglutinans. Transmission electron microscopy showed this to be aberrant conidiogenesis, where phialides produced microconidia which in turn acted as phialides to give the impression of catenate conidium production. The wall features of these aberrant phialides and conidia are discussed, and compared with normal phialides and conidia.
