Abstract
Construction waste accounts for up to 2/3 of the solid waste generated, resulting in high management costs for the public administration and few deposition areas. Among the construction waste, a large portion is composed of red tiles and bricks, which can be reused. This research aims to reuse red ceramics for the production of alternative concrete, with the partial replacement of the sand in concentrations of 10/90, 20/80 and 30/70 residue / sand. The concrete characterization was performed from the fresh state for consistency (Slump Test) and in the hardened state (7, 14 and 28 days) for the compression tests. The specimens with 30% of residues presented increase in the mechanical properties of compression and traction by diametral compression, with a 44% increase and 28%, respectively, in relation to concrete without residue. The morphological tests of Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) demonstrated that the red ceramics obtained good dispersion and adhesion in the concrete components, besides that the clay composition of the residue contributed to fill the voids. Results indicate that the partial substitution of the sand by red ceramics presented satisfactory properties, being able to be applied for the production of alternative concrete.
