Du Bois collected 500 photographs that attempted to show a varied and nuanced view of contemporary life in the United States for Black Americans. Fearing that the photographs might not speak to the full extent of the degrading and dehumanizing effects of slavery, Du Bois created 60 data visualizations, or infographics, that employed the data on Black life in the United States that he was instrumental in collecting. Abstract
