The histori-cal journey of youth in building the Indonesian nation is quite impressive in the public's view. However, what is the condition of the youth today? This paper discusses the youth's efforts to do social participation to optimize their social status and role and analyzes the implications for nationalism. This research is quantitative research with descriptive exposure. The data collection technique was carried out by distributing questionnaires openly to youths of the University of Indonesia Salemba Campus who were domiciled in Central Jakarta, Indonesia, and had carried out volunteer activities. With this purposeful sampling technique, there were 77 research respondents whose data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation tests to see the implications. The results showed that youth social participation in optimizing their status and role in society was still not optimal, although 96.1% of respondents admitted otherwise. They were founded in several cases and the role of youth who work individually or affiliated with a youth organization. Currently, young people are involved in several activities in their community, such as volunteering in the field of education, which is based on self-development as the primary motive. By volunteering, youths try to optimize their status and role in society and have implications for nationalism with a percentage of 79.5%.
