Abstract

When living in Antwerp for many years, the Florentine merchant Lodovico Guicciardini (1521–89) compiled information about the region’s history and culture that he first published in 1567, complete with several maps. His brief descriptions of artists are useful to art historians, as is his attention to women artists.
