Abstract
The image of Camilo Castelo Branco in literary historiography was shaped by a sentimental idealism and the tragedy of his impossible love relationships. However, the analysis of the male characters in novels such as Coração, Cabeça e Estômago and O Que Fazem Mulheres, proves that they share the same comic gaze of the Camilian narrator, who portrays them as a parody of the Romantic hero.
