Folklore claims that this plant was used to heal a variety of ailments, including gout, asthma, sore throats, bleeding piles, ulcers, hiccoughs, diarrhoea, and dysentery. Numerous pharmacological and therapeutic actions of the plant have been identified, including anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic, anti-proliferative, radioprotective, cardioprotective, anti-arthritic, and qualities that increase gastrointestinal motility.
