Abstract

The textile design is composed of the patterns on the surface of the fabric. But as the viewing distanceincreases, the design tends to be recognized as a large rough design. First, the visually effective distances are measured for design elements which have subjectively been evaluated. The visually effective distance expresses the precieved differences between designs in terms of visibility at different viewing distances. Next, low-pass filtered images of the textile designs are correlated with the original images in terms of the measurement of the textile identification distance.The spatial frequency components are shown as a visual feature of textile design related to visibility and also expressed by the visually effective distance.
