Abstract
Low maize productivity on Madura Island is caused by low water availability. One of the strategies used to overcome the problem of low maize productivity in Madura is to assemble maize varieties resistant to drought stress. This study aims to determine the resistance of hybrid maize candidates in the germination phase using Polyethylene Glycol (PEG 6000). All genotypes were germinated using the paper roll test in plastic method, then moistened using a mixture of aqudesh with PEG 6000 according to the treatment. The data obtained was analyzed using the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at the 5% level, and if it shows a significant effect then the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) is carried out at the 5% level. The results showed that the corn genotype and PEG 6000 concentration affected all the parameters tested, so there were character differences between one genotype and the other. The genotypes resistant to drought stress in the germination phase using PEG 6000 were G1 and G5. The moderately tolerant genotypes were G3, G7, and G8, while the genotypes sensitive to drought stress were G2, G4, G6, G9, and G10.
