Abstract

An agar plate assay was devised for studying chemotropic growth of fungi. Germ-tubes of the ascomycetous plant pathogen Cochliobolus sativus grew chemotropically towards sterilized barley roots or root exudates. Chemotropism was confined to the zone approximately 0–2 mm from the root or the source of root exudate.
