Abstract

Along with climate change, measures should be taken for increasing environmental concerns which have accelerated the transition to the electrical transportation industry with the rapid development of electric vehicle technology. Since one of the most important public transportation solutions is represented by buses, electrified buses will take an important place soon. The battery system is one of the most complicated and costly powertrain elements which need to be designed safely in electrified buses. Due to high energy and capacity requirements of electric buses and possible spaces that can be used for battery packs in different locations in chassis, distributed battery system comes into prominence instead of a single battery pack. In this study, proposed different Battery Disconnect Unit (BDU) topologies for distributed battery packs are compared in terms of safety, volume, performance and efficiency parameters.
