Abstract

For surveying tasks to document glacier levels and to evaluate the mass balance, measurement data with centimeter accuracy is required. With the RTK (Real Time Kinematic) − capable low cost GNSS in use, measurements in the required accuracy range are possible. The combination of userfriendly software and low cost GNSS hardware is an ideal basis to develop a “SmartRTK” prototype for the requirements of high alpine working areas. “SmartRTK” is a compact, robust and lightweight receiver-antenna unit that can transmit the RTK position to the smartphone.
