The concept of spreading cancer cells in the body is called metastasis. For example, if one person is diagnosed with lung cancer and these cancer cells spread throughout the brain, the brain cancer is called metastatic lung cancer. This is because the cancer cells in the brain resemble the ones in the lung. Abstract
Secondary brain tumors are actually caused by cancer in other parts of the body and are completely different from primary brain tumors.
