Collins, Julie Yu-Wen Chen","doi":"10.4018/IJEP.2017100102","DOIUrl":null,"url":null,"abstract":"ThisarticleexplorestheengagementofmembersoftheIrishlowerparliamentarychamber(TDs) withWeb2.0technologies.Whileconductingthewebsite-featureanalysis,theauthorslookedatthree dimensionsofeachTD’swebsite:informationcontent,interactiontoolsandpoliticians’activities ontheweb.TheyfoundthatIrishparliamentarians’usageoftheInternetisstilllargelybasedon theparadigmofWeb1.0.Perhapsmoreaccurately,Irishpoliticians’Internetusageisinthemode ofWeb1.5,inwhichsomeinteractiveandparticipatoryspaceisgeneratedwiththeideathatthe cyberspaceshouldencouragecitizenparticipation.Asconventionalvariablessuchaspartyaffiliation andgeographicvariationstillhaveaninfluenceonTDs’websiteperformance,onecanconcludethat informationandcommunicationtechnologiesdonotreallychangethewayIrishpoliticsareplayed. TheIrishexperienceisinlinewithvariousotherstudies,suchasinItalyandFinland.
