Abstract
The need to separate land lots and provide security for people and property arose early in history. Fences, as a result of this process, are an element of the architectural and landscape image in both rural and urban spaces. The evolution of the concept of security has been followed by the changes in the design, materials and functions of the fences and walls. All this variety is reflected in the image of the urban space, enhancing or reducing its value. The field of fence design is regulated, with more or less finesse, by spatial acts of local authorities. Fence, in practice, outcomes vary. In the scope of the research study, we undertook to develop a model to evaluate fences. With this model, we aim to acquaint the readers with the topic, assist the responsible stakeholders in their adoption of spatial development acts, as well as designers and contractors in their construction, with a view to achieving high quality design of the residential environment.
