The main focus highlighted was the colonial government's policy towards Chinese descent in Sidoarjo. As well as how the Chinese descent adapts to the culture of the surrounding community, thus changing the social status of the Chinese. This study uses a historical method. This study combines literature reviews from libraries, e-journals, and field research by seeking oral sources. Oral sources are needed to strengthen or complement written sources. The results of the study explained that the policies issued by the colonial government had influenced the socio-cultural life of Chinese descent. In addition, the Western-style education received by the younger generation of Chinese has raised their status among the people.
