Received: April 30, 2021 Revised: May 26, 2023 Accepted: July 09, 2023 Published: June 30, 2023 ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the socio-cultural life of the Chinese in Sidoarjo during Dutch colonialism. The main focus highlighted was the colonial government's policy towards Chinese descent in Sidoarjo. As well as how the Chinese descent adapts to the culture of the surrounding community, thus changing the social status of the Chinese. This study uses a historical method. This study combines literature reviews from libraries, e-journals, and field research by seeking oral sources. Oral sources are needed to strengthen or complement written sources. The results of the study explained that the policies issued by the colonial government had influenced the socio-cultural life of Chinese descent. In addition, the Western-style education received by the younger generation of Chinese has raised their status among the people. By mastering the Dutch language and dressing in a Western-style, the younger generation of Chinese is in the middle class.

This paper aims to discuss 1994’s Semeru eruption and its aftermath, especially the history of eruption and mitigation in Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency. Using the history methods, as well as perusing some newspaper archives, government archives, and interviews, this paper tries to explore the new narratives of the Semeru eruption and how the indigenous faced the disaster. This paper finds out that the eruption of Mount Semeru which occurred in 1994 was one of the most devastating eruptions in its history, which caused a major impact on environmental damage, settlements, agricultural land, forestry land, livestock, and dead life. Several mitigation efforts after the disaster were done by the government in the form of building evacuation posts, alert posts, making check dams, transmigration departures, and material reliefs. These efforts were effective because the aid was distributed to the victims. However, the facts show that the community and the government were not ready to face the impact of natural hazards.

This research aims to determine the history, memory, and historical education that are built-in historical discourse. History and memory are two components that influence and support each other. But what if the narrated history is different from the people's memory and how is this conveyed in education?. Answering the researcher's questions using the literature review method. In the last five years, major countries in the world have apologized and reconciled historical events that occurred in the past. The apology came after it emerged proving the victims as well as humanitarian considerations. In Indonesia, the events of 1965 and the Indonesian revolution have become the main discussion in the history of history to this day. Differences in historical narratives and people's memories of these events harm historical education. History will lose its soul and function because it is unable to achieve the goals achieved both in learning and in society.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskusikan bagaimana sejarah, ingatan dan pendidikan sejarah dibangun dalam wacana sejarah kontroversial. Sejarah dan ingatan adalah dua komponen yang saling mempengaruhi dan saling menyokong. Namun bagaimana jika sejarah yang dinarasikan berbeda dengan ingatan masyarakat serta bagaimana hal tersebut disampaikan dalam pendidikan ?. Menjawab pertanyaan tersebut peneliti menggunakan metode kajian pustaka. Lima tahun terakhir negara-negara besar di dunia melakukan ucapan permintaan maaf dan rekonsiliasi peristiwa sejarah yang terjadi di masa lalu. Permintaan maaf tersebut terjadi setelah muncul kesaksian para korban serta pertimbangan kemanusiaan. Di Indonesia, peristiwa 65 dan revolusi Indonesia menjadi pembahasan utama dalam sejarah kontroversial hingga hari ini. Perbedaan narasi sejarah dan ingatan masyarakat tentang peristiwa tersebut memberikan dampak negatif dalam pendidikan sejarah. Sejarah akan kehilangan jiwanya dan fungsinya karena tidak mampu mencapai tujuan yang dicapai baik dalam pembelajaran maupun dalam masyarakat.

This research aimed to find out the condition of Regentschap Pemalang during the economic depression and the community's efforts to overcome the effects of the economic depression. This research used the historical method. The results of this research indicated that Regentschap Pemalang in the 1930s was an area affected by the economic depression. The establishment of sugar factories and plantations connected to international trade was one of the strong reasons for Regentschap Pemalang to become an area affected by the economic depression. The increase in unemployment and poverty during the 1930s occurred in Regentschap Pemalang due to workers dismissal, exacerbated by disease outbreaks and increased crime. Efforts made by the community to overcome these problems were by holding charitable activities, including charity night markets, charity football matches, and free food distribution.

Membicarakan sistem perpajakan tidak hanya berkutat kepada bagaimana negara mendapatkan pendapatan terbesar dari segala kegiatan perekonomian dalam wilayahnya. Tapi juga merupakan instrumen pemerintah dalam melakukan kontrol pemerintah terhadap rakyatnya, Mempertahankan hak-hak teritorial dari campur tangan luar, serta menegaskan legitimasi dan wibawa menghadapi ancaman-ancaman dari dalam (Halaman 1). Keseksian tersebut banyak menarik minat banyak peneliti untuk mengulas lebih lanjut mengenai perkembangan perpajakan masa kolonial.
