Internet of Medical Things:Brief Overview and the Future

Abstract

Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) combined with technologies, i.e., Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), allow machine-to-machine communication when they are connected with a wireless network. Advancement in IOMT has lighten medical staff's work with faster and high accuracy of disease diagnosis. In this paper, we provide a short review on latest advances of IoMT. We identify the challenges that hinder the wide adoption of IoMT, such as the high infrastructure cost, data security threats, strain on existing networks, regulatory challenges, data challenges, and uni-task orientation of weak AI. We also discuss the prospects of IoMT to inform future research, in an effort to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) advocated by the United Nation, essentially SDG3: Good Health and Wellbeing, and SDG9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
