Abstract
During the simultaneous rolling of one slab in both roll-pairs (horizontal and vertical) of a slabbing mill, there occurs the development of various vibrations in each drive. Rolling is possible only under the condition of change in the positions of the neutral points on the arcs of contact. The result of a change in the distance between these neutral points is an apparent change in the length of the metal between the horizontal and vertical rolls, and thus an apparent change in the coefficient of elasticity of the metal between the two stands. On this basis a method has been adopted for the modelling of the interaction between two continuous rolling mills, designed for the rolling of a rigid charge (i.e. of a large cross-section such as a slab, a bloom, a plate, etc.).
