Because diagnosis is predominantly clinical, there is great interest in identifying biomarkers for early diagnosis and differentiation of the different types of parkinsonism. Compared to protein biomarkers, microRNAs (miRNAs) and circularRNAs (circRNAs) are stable tissue-specific molecules that can be accurately measured by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).
