Research on the Progress and Characteristics of General Education in Chinese Universities Based on Cite Space

Abstract: General education, which promotes the coordinated development of people's physical and mental health, intelligence and the life value outlook, has become a hot topic in China's educational field. It covers the quality education previously advocated. However, we find some issues in the process of research on general education, such as the low correlation and lack of cooperation among scholars, as well as the implementation difficulties and concept ambiguity in its development in China. To analyze and research the development of general education, we construct a visualized knowledge map based on a large amount of related literatures, including its development history, regional institutions, statistics on publication volume of core authors and the correlation of high-frequency keywords. Accordingly, this paper quantitatively reveals the development history, research focus, hot topics and trend of the general education in China, and it is able to provide reference for the future research in the field.
