This study has been conducted on the students of the Department of English, University of Dhaka and on the students of the Department of English University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS). This paper has benefited from the quantitative method. The study examines the impact of students’ motivation and attitudes while learning a foreign language. This study also shed light on the question whether it is true that social factors have roles to play in language learning or not. It has been demonstrated that motivation has a major role to play while learning a second language.
