Queue Length Estimation Algorithm for Signalized Intersections Using Taxi DTG Data
In this study, an algorithm was developed for estimating the queue length at signalized intersections using taxi DTG data collected for the Metropolis of Seoul. For this, the coordinates of individual vehicles plotted on a time-space diagram were estimated from individual vehicles experiencing speed variations owing to traffic signals at intersections. To estimate the queue length at signalized intersections, the speed of the forming queue shockwave was estimated from vehicle coordinates at locations of speed deceleration for every cycle. The microsimulation software Vissim was used to verify the accuracy and sensitivity of the proposed algorithm. The results of the evaluation revealed at least 19.8% of the mean absolute percentage. The result indicates that the queue length can be estimated through this approach.
