The research material is syntactic units of language selected from the mechanical engineering texts, demonstrating the use of syntactic compression, and their translation into Ukrainian. Examples were selected from the manuals on mechanical engineering, operating instructions for various devices, bilingual sites of international engineering companies such as SKF and DENSO. The results of our study showed that the most productive means of syntactic compression in the mechanical engineering texts are the infinitive (27%), gerund (18%), and adjective (16%). Less productive means of syntactic compression are ellipsis (11%), replacement (10%), syntactic reduction (9%) and nominalization (9%). 抽象的。本文着重分析了英汉互译的句法压缩手段和方法;研究句法压缩手段的使用频率及其翻译方法在机械工程类文本材料中的应用频率。研究材料是从机械工程文本中选择的语言句法单位,展示了句法压缩的使用,并将其翻译成乌克兰语。例子选自机械工程手册、各种设备的操作说明、国际工程公司(如SKF和电装)的双语网站。研究结果表明,机械工程类语篇中最有效的句法压缩方式是不定式(27%)、动名词(18%)和形容词(16%)。效率较低的句法压缩方式是省略(11%)、替换(10%)、句法缩减(9%)和名词化(9%)。对机械工程类英语压缩结构在不同句法压缩方式下的翻译方法的研究表明,不定式最常译为目的复句(65.4%),最不常译为因果复句(65.4%);形容词最常用的翻译方式是带定语的复句(72.8%),最不常用的是展开(1.2%);动名词在这些文本中最常被翻译为替换词性(78.7%),最不常见的是替换动作方式的复合句(1.1%);最典型的省略句翻译方式是展开(80%),最不常见的省略句翻译方式是目的复合句(1.7%)、时间句(1.7%)和承认句(1.7%);名词化最常被译为带目的的复句(40.7%),最不常被译为带定语的复句(1.9%);机械工程类文本中句法还原的最常见翻译方式是展开翻译(89.4%),最不常见的是解释性翻译(10.6%);替换最常用的是展开翻译(75.5%),最不常用的是解释性翻译(24.5%)。关键词:语音压缩;语法压缩;句法压缩手段;压缩结构;翻译方法;机械工程文本。
