Transition to the so-called postantibiotic era increases the risk of infections caused by pan-resistant bacterial strains. To control them, the use of antimicrobial agents currently in use will not be sufficient. Therefore the development of new molecules is one of the key issues in pharmacy. Up-to-date methods of drug design are required for their identification, supported by appropriate biochemical and pharmacological evaluation. More explicit involvement of the pharmaceutical industry in the previous research will also be necessary.
