It demands formal methods in protocol conformance testing for various protocols and testing methods. This paper gives an introduction of basic concepts and techniques of protocol conformance testing, and then an analysis of the application of formal methods in this field. We mainly focus our attention on test execution methods, which play an important role in system testing. We propose an approach to test execution based on the operational semantics of the TTCN, and use this method for our testing system's construction.
