Premature Rupture of Membrane (PROM) Increasing Asphyxia Neonatorum Risk
— According to WHO, 4 million infants die annually from asphyxia at birth, which represents about 38% of all children's death under 5 years. The incidence of premature rupture of the membranes (PROM) occurs in 6-20% of pregnancies. The most common complication in PROM is respiratory distress syndrome, which takes place in 10-40% of newborns and causes hypoxia and asphyxia. The study aims to identify the relations of premature rupture of membrane (PROM) with asphyxia neonatorum. The methods used observational analytic correlation with a case-control design and chi-square analysis. The sample of this study accounted for 144 respondents, composing of 72 people of the case group and 72 people of the control group. The results of the chi-square test showed p-value 0.024, CI = 1,108-4,496, OR = 2,232 and the value of the correlation coefficient was 0.185.
