The paper focuses on A. Nixon's approach to understanding new atheism as a new relevant form of religiosity in society. Analysis of the dissertation study helps to understand how the author's position was formed and what is the methodology for his understanding of new atheism. Nixon defines his task when discussing the history of free thought in an attempt to contextually analyze the antireligious movement of the 21st century (new atheists and subgroups).
