Marked synergism was detected in multidrug resistant (MDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates when the ethanolamine antihistaminic, diphenhydramine, was used in combination with a variety of antibiotics such as azithromycin, erythromycin, amikacin, gentamicin or ciprofloxacin.
