Analysis system for real time management of congestions in bulk transmission systems
A tool was developed supporting transmission system operators (TSO) fast and in non-discriminatory manner in redistributing active power generation in cases of sudden and unexpected overload of lines or transformers. Despite of scrutinized generation schedules such situations might happen in cases of system failure or large uncertain (e.g., wind) power production. The system is based on SCADA information and delivers concrete and well measured suggestions to the operator, indicating the generation of which generators should be adjusted in order to remove the occurred overload, see principle sketch fig. 1, and is able to optionally account for generation displacement cost, too. It was developed in close cooperation of a university and a TSO in Germany and successfully verified on the basis of real bulk power system data
