DOCUMENTS CONCERNING SIR THOMAS ARUNDELL’S PARTICIPATION IN THE SIEGE OF ESZTERGOM

В публикации представлены переводы и комментарии к документам, отражающим участие сэра Томаса Эренделла в осаде Эстергома (Венгрия, 1595 г.) во время войны 1593–1606гг. между Габсбургами и Османской империей — письмо самого Эренделла лорду Бёрли, диплом, которым император Рудольф II даровал ему титул имперского графа за совершенные им подвиги, и отрывок из «Истории турок» Ричарда Ноллса — современного событиям исторического произведения, содержавшего детальное описание осады и показывающего политический контекст действий англичанина. The publication presents translations of and commentaries to documents that demonstrate the participation of Sir Thomas Arundell in the siege of Esztergom (Hungary, 1595), during the War of 1593–1606 between the Habsburgs and the Ottoman Empire: an “Apology” written by Arundell himself as a letter to Lord Burghley, a diploma by which emperor Rudolph II granted him the title of an Imperial Count for his endevours, and a fragment from the “History of the Turkes” by Richard Knolles, a contemporary historical work that provides a detailed description of the siege and shows the political context of the Englishman’s actions.
