Identification of Groundwater Polluted Zones in Noyyal River Watershed (4B2B2) using GIS Technology
: Ground water plays a vital role in satisfying both domestic and industrial needs. Most of the ground water sources have degraded over the years due to infiltration of untreated industrial effluents and anthropogenic causes. To address these challenges an effort has been made in this study to access the eminence of ground water in Noyyal River basin, Tamil Nadu. Water quality index has been designed based on the data acquired using Arc GIS software 9.3. WQI has played a vital role in precisely demarcating groundwater quality deteriorated zones. The water quality index map visually provides an insight over the area where urbanization can be done and the areas not suitable for further developmental activities. Further if causative factors were identified accordingly appropriate remedial measures can be suggested.
