It has fundamentally changed the way people learn, communicate and do business. Its adoption at various levels of education can greatly transform the nature of education including “where” and “how” education takes place and the roles of students and the teachers in the learning process. Therefore information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a powerful tool for extending education opportunities, to previously disadvantaged areas which include: scattered rural populations traditionally excluded from education due to cultural or social reasons such as ethnic minorities and gender. The use of computers (or even mobile phones) as tutors for drill and practice and instructional delivery combined with traditional instruction can result in increased  learning which will be evidenced in students learning more quickly, demonstrating greater retention and being better motivated to learn. The objective of this study is twofold: To find out the benefits of ICT in teaching of languages and also whether the teaching of languages online faces particular challenges as compared to other subjects, the study case being Moi University. 摘要

在线学习是教育领域发展最快的趋势。它从根本上改变了人们学习、交流和做生意的方式。在各级教育中采用它可以极大地改变教育的性质,包括“在哪里”和“如何”进行教育以及学生和教师在学习过程中的角色。因此,信息和通信技术(ICT)是将教育机会扩大到以前处于不利地位的地区的有力工具,这些地区包括:由于少数民族和性别等文化或社会原因,传统上被排除在教育之外的分散的农村人口。使用电脑(甚至是手机)作为训练和实践的导师,并将教学交付与传统教学相结合,可以提高学习效果,这将在学生学得更快、记忆力更强、学习动力更强的情况下得到证明。本研究的目的有两方面:一是找出资讯及通讯科技在语言教学中的好处,二是与其他科目相比,线上语言教学是否面临特别的挑战。研究个案为莫伊大学。关键词电子学习,语言,移动学习
