Our study is based on three theoretical perspectives 1) social recognition (Honneth, 2000), 2) the ethic of care (Tronto, 2008) and 3) the support trajectory (Corbin, 1992). Six individual interviews were conducted with caregivers in three counties in NB. The results showed that the relationship between the caregiver and the elderly parent is central to the support trajectory. Furthermore, the results allow us to understand the complexity of the support trajectory, especially regarding the difficulties encountered, which enabled us to develop two types of support trajectories 1) complete: all the essential elements for maintaining a positive relationship between the caregiver and the elder parent are present and 2) fragmented: certain elements are absent to maintain a positive relationship between the caregiver and the elder parent.
