A component is a small autonomous device that encapsulates hardware, software and possibly mechanical parts. The interaction model for the components is based on a publisher/subscriber scheme in which well defined information objects - events - are produced and consumed. CODES provides a description for the smart components in the system related to the events which they produce and consume.
