Effect of Different Genres of Music on Brain Waves
In the past, scientist and researchers are studying to understand the variation in human brain activities when hearing different kinds of music. This paper aims to elicit the correlation of genre of music heard with the brain waves. Electroencephalographic(EEG) studies show that Alpha waves are seen when the brain is at resting state, Beta waves appear when the brain is in a state of consciousness and doing everyday activities, Delta waves appear when the brain is in a state of a deep sleep, Theta waves appear when the brain is in sleep or deep meditation and vivid dreams arise and Gamma waves are associated with enlightenment on a spiritual level and deeper levels of self-awareness. With the analysis of which stimulus provokes the transmission of which particular wave, it’ll be easier to prescribe a specific type of music to relieve stress, anxiety or enhance mood or even help in better concentration while performing a task. Various fields of therapeutic medicine can utilize this compiled data to treat mental disorders.
