It debates a tool for analysis of the competitive environment and its use in the area of e-learning. The tool is supposed to help students of both technical and economic disciplines to understand the issue of sales on the internet, to analyse the competitive environment, to respect technical, implementation, optimisation as well as economic and marketing indicators. The information amassed in this way enable taking strategic decisions and introducing innovations and modifications of sales portals. The article also includes a description of the results attained and the use of this tool in hands-on practical activities in teaching.
