The year-long project will be operational in the greater Orlando area in 1992. In addition to the demonstration of navigation and traffic management technology, a major goal of TravTek is to evaluate project objectives and answer questions about driver behavior. The data collected will be used to examine system benefits and costs in a fully deployed system. The foci of this paper are 1) the concept of TravTek as a person-machine system, 2) the process of planning a comprehensive research program and 3) an overview of the planned evaluation approaches.
