ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS APPLICATIONS: AUTOMATED TRANSLATION SYSTEMS COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
The article investigates the artificial intelligence (AI) applications features and prospects in translation and teaching translation in Ukrainian higher educational institutions. According to the world and Ukrainian researchers’ study results, AI use in translation has not become widespread yet, despite the rapid tool development over the past 10 years. In addition, the Ukrainian translators technical competence issue improving still remains relevant. Entering the labour market, Ukrainian university graduates, majoring in translation, mostly have to master these technologies on their own, which significantly reduces their work efficiency and decreases the translation training quality compared to more progressive teaching methods in Western Europe, and the USA. The purpose research is to substantiate theoretically and practically the trends in AI technologies development in translation. The paper identifies the prerequisites for the AI use in translation and gives a three automated translation systems comparative analysis. It revealed the CAT-systems specific features, namely Trados, SmartCAT and MemoQ. The article analyzes such above-mentioned automated translation systems indicators as the manual and machine translation efficiency, functionality, the program availability for installation and mastering by a novice practitioner or student translator, as well as its interface design. Based on these indicators, the study defines the most effective CAT-system of teaching students the automated translation basics in the mastering translation skills process. The conducted analysis shows that it is worth using them only upon mastering the more user-friendly programs skills, e.g. the SmartCAT cloud system. It was figured out that this program is not inferior to Trados Studio and MemoQ. Apart from that, a built-in translation training system make the learning process more intuitive, which is a significant advantage to a novice translator.
