Due to the system architecture of the MCFD/SSMA, a frequency domain diversity receiving scheme is available in addition to the theoretically optimal RAKE receiving scheme. The former suffers an insignificant degradation of performance compared with the latter, while considerably simplifying the receiver architecture.
