Hunting pits in northern Finland (region of Kainuu)
The aim of the work is to analyze interesting archaeological sites of the North — pit traps known in the tundra and north taiga zones of Fennoscandia. The article deals with the main issues of their study in Northern Finland and Lapland. By the beginning of the XXI century, Finnish archaeologists had done a lot of work in studying the hunting pits. Systems of hunting pits were built together with the long special fencep. The main objects of hunting are reindeer and elk. Pit traps were used from the Mesolithic to the XVI century. In the Middle Ages in Fennoscandia, traps could be made by aborigines — Sami and neighboring peoples — Karelians, Finns. In a comprehensive study of ethnography and archeology, hunting pits are good informative archaeological object.
