A review on the wear and failure suppression of artificial knee joint
In this paper, the problem of wear and failure for artificial knee joint are reviewed; Firstly, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is described in detail. Secondly, the geometric design of the prosthesis, material properties and surface treatment are fully elaborated. Then, the laws of joint friction and wear, contact stress distribution, as well as lower limb force line change are summarized. Finally, three methods are concluded and advised to restrain the wear and failure for artificial knee, and the real-time monitoring equipment is recommended can be implanted in the patient's body to record the actual use of the prosthesis. The results of this study can provide theoretical support for the matching design, inhibition of friction and wear to artificial knee joint.
