Combination of Techniques for Removal of Background Unwanted Signals from Radar Images
Unwanted signals in a search radar are generally described as noise or clutter and this also includes ground returns, sea returns, weather, buildings, birds and insects. Removal of clutter is a significant challenge in radar signal processing. In this paper, we experiment with the use of certain sharpening filters and custom linear 2D filers for such an application. We report the work related to the removal of clutter like background disturbance carried out using a dataset of radar images collected from a website of National Weather Service Enhanced Radar Image — National Mosaic. The proposed approach provides satisfactory results making the radar returns prominent and sharp.
