Las ciudades y el agua. Nuevas relaciones entre cultura-naturaleza en los frentes costeros contemporáneos
Waterfronts have historically been the domain of various appropriations of societies. These land and water interface spaces condense different interests, generally synthesized in the work vs. leisure dispute. Especially from the middle of the 20th century, in the face of numerous changes in the modes of production, the riverside sectors located in central strategic areas of the cities become obsolete. In this sense, these spaces are repositioned as an expectant place for transformation, based on their conversion into new public spaces that enable the development of collective activities and traditions. In this paper, we investigate the renovations of the waterfronts of six cities in different parts of the world, in order to critically analyse these landscapes of water as neoecosystems from a particular relationship of the binomial nature-culture.
